![]() FIRST SHE WAS A MODEL, THEN SHE WAS AN ACTRESS, WHO BECAME A DESIGNER, NOW SHE PAINTS!….acts, models and designs! People think that it was probably modeling that led me to designing fashion, but it goes back much farther. Back to my Mom, (former Miss Idaho), who designed, created and sewed my entire wardrobe. I wore the clothes made by her loving hand from birth until the time I began to feel the inevitable peer pressure! From then on, we were a team, I designed, she sewed. We made everything from prom gowns and twirling uniforms (lots of those) to full on ski outfits with down fill and fur trim! (I only use faux fur these days.) Modeling, taught me to recognize and cultivate true style and originality, but , I also developed a passion for creating beautiful images. Painting is the perfect vehicle for me to re-create the beauty I find in love and romance, nature, animals and the female form. When I paint ceramics it's a love/ hate relationship. The process of baking the paint is almost more than I can bear! The change that takes place is both exasperating and humbling in it’s ability to shape an image. Melting brings a certain blending that I could never anticipate, and I love the element of surprise. I chose the above painting by Harry McCormick to show you, because, I was 20ish and modeling in New York when Harry hired me to be his model for this painting entitled, 'The River Café'. Harry is famous for his paintings of restaurants in New York, especially the Russian Tea Room. I love this image because I was so young that I am still wearing the clothes my Mom and I made together. Silk blouse and drop waist skirt designed by Tawny, created by Harlene ( my Mommy). You gotta love it! |
